Apple iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro release date schedule: The complete countdown

Update August 28th below. This post was first published on Sunday, August 27, 2023.

Every fall, Apple unveils a new batch of iPhones to an enthusiastic world. Even 16 years after the unveiling of the first iPhone in 2007, no device release has generated similar excitement.

Less than a month separates us from this year’s release, and before that, there is a special event for Apple when the phones are revealed. First, there’s the moment Apple sends out invitations to the press and guests, with details of when and where the event will take place. And that could only be a few days away.

More from ForbesExactly when will Apple release Apple Watch Ultra 2

Do you want to be fully aware of what’s coming and when, so there are no surprises? Here’s a comprehensive guide, even before Apple says a word. Of course, this post will be updated as soon as anything official happens (and you can see how right or wrong I am).

1. Apple sends formal invitations to the special event

This is the starting gun. He will confirm that the event is taking place, with an attractive image and symbolic words, that call for a clever or even strange explanation. Hint: The colors used often serve as clues to the shades that iPhones will have. There will also be fun augmented reality animations.

It could be any day now. It’s always at least a week before the special event itself, which, from the schedule below, means the latest will be on Tuesday, September 5th. However, Apple also seems to love sending shivers through the air in Berlin, which is hosting the mega event. The IFA technology fair, which runs from Friday, September 1st to Tuesday, September 5th. The earlier the announcement, the greater the impact. Apple never sends out invitations on a Friday or holiday (Monday, September 4th is Labor Day), so that’s Thursday, August 31st. This is a strong contender, but I think it’s wrong.

This year’s Apple event is a week later than last year, so I think Apple wants to get our predictions started as soon as possible.

verdict

Tuesday, August 29 or Wednesday, August 30, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. PST.

2. Apple’s Special Event

Once the invitations are sent, we’ll know the details of the special event itself. It’s always been in Cupertino, at the Steve Jobs Theater since it was built, and it’s always at 10am local time. Other special events are held in different cities, but Cupertino is iPhone City.

Wednesday, September 6th was thought to be expected, but that simply did not happen. I’m sure that would have been Apple’s preference, but all reports are that the production line is set up for later in the month, so the event will take place later as well.

Apple always picks a Tuesday if it can, and only avoids it if it’s the day after a public holiday, or if it’s 9/11, or if, you know, Covid is messing with the wheels.

verdict

Tuesday, September 12 at 10 a.m. PT at the Steve Jobs Theater, Apple Park, with a simulcast.

3. Pre-orders begin

This is very normal and therefore guessable, assuming all other details are correct. It usually falls on the Friday one week before the sale date.

verdict

Friday 15th September – Timing TBD.

4. Apple releases iOS 17 and iPadOS 17

This is a quietly important step. This means that anyone with a compatible iPhone or iPad can download the software, without even having to invest in iPhone 15 series devices. This often happens in the same week as the keynote. Last year, the iPad software came out later, in October, but that may not be the case this year. Mac software has its own release date.

verdict

Monday, September 18th at 10 a.m. PT, although it could be sooner.

5. iPhone reviews appear

This will be early in the week, on a separate day from Apple Watch reviews. Press will be set on iPhones shortly after the special event, and reviews will usually appear from 9am ET / 6am PT, though that time can change.

verdict

Tuesday, September 19th at 6 a.m. PT.
