Apple leaks detail the all-new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro design changes
Leakers have revealed many details of the new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro just weeks before Apple’s September 12 launch.
Working with several Chinese leakers, industry insider Majin Bu published a post explaining the set’s new design, screen, camera, color, and even packaging decisions. Let’s break it down.
design – Bo mentions that “this year the frame has been cleaned up, which is not very noticeable. It is not known what material it is, but 90% of it is titanium alloy. This is expected to make the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models significantly lighter than their predecessors. Bu also reveals interesting details about the iPhone 15 Pro design process:
“The buttons were still physical buttons during the project earlier this year. Vibration feedback is turned off (in the solid-state versions), and you can’t press them. Because of the rate of return issue,[Apple]replaced them with physical buttons.
“This year, the iPhone 15 series has two sets of motherboard designs without sim card slots and with card slots. The version without card slots has a smaller motherboard, which is different from the 14 Pro.
It is not yet known which version of the motherboard Apple has chosen, but it is very likely that it will have a sim card slot, since there are no leaks about a sim-free design.
Displays – Bu indicates slight increases in exact physical dimensions for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max screen sizes of 6.14/6.15 and 6.73/6.74 inches, respectively. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max screens measure 6.12 inches and 6.69 inches, respectively. Bu also casts doubt on the previously leaked measurements of Apple’s ultra-thin iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max bezels:
“The frame of the 15 Pro is definitely not as narrow as 1.55mm, it’s just a cover glass, there’s no OLED screen, the OLED screen also has a lamination area, and the final width should be 1.71mm.”
Notably, this higher figure would still beat the current record held by Xiaomi 13 (1.81 mm), and should be the premium design element for new professionals.
camera Bo notes that the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s exclusive periscope telephoto lens is noticeably sharper than the iPhone 15 Pro’s, and that “the whole camera is a little lighter than before.” Interestingly, Bo mentions that, unlike competitors, the PeriCop phone’s camera isn’t square, “it’s round, it looks very deep, and the aperture is very large.”
Colors – Pu agrees with the recent leaks about the iPhone 15 Pro’s colors and adds more details, explaining that the silver-gray color has a “silver-like” gray back panel and edge. In addition, the new black version is lighter than the Space Black found on the iPhone 14 Pro, and the new dark blue color will be darker than Apple’s previous blue tones.
Packaging – Finally, Bu has some packaging information, revealing that “The 15 pro series wallpaper displayed (on the box) is very similar to the 14 pro series wallpaper, the main body is black with a gradient color and then there is an S curve.” This means that the default wallpaper will feature a black background with a more S-curve than the dual “U” wallpaper that was present in its predecessors (Introducing the concept here).
Bu didn’t touch on other key talking points about the iPhone 15 series, such as the rumored faster charging and Thunderbolt4 speeds for the Pro models, a potentially rebranded iPhone 15 Ultra and widely expected price increases. However, at this point, it’s hard to tell what secrets Apple might have in store.
