Colombian James Rodriguez breaks Messi's record

Colombia captain James Rodriguez broke the record for most assists in a single Copa America tournament when he scored the only goal in Thursday's semi-final against Uruguay.

Rodriguez (32), a former Real Madrid player and current Brazilian player for Sao Paulo, has ended his partnership with Argentine star Lionel Messi, after the former held the previous record with five assists in the 2021 campaign.

Rodriguez has assisted in 5 games in this tournament, scoring twice in the first round against Paraguay, making the decisive pass against Costa Rica in the second round, scoring twice in the quarter-final against Panama, and assisting the winning goal in the match against Uruguay.

The Colombian star won the Best Player award for his fourth time in the tournament with his goal in the semi-final.
