Israel strikes near Baniyas in Syria

The Syrian news agency SANA quoted military sources as saying that Israel launched an attack near the northwestern Syrian coastal city of Banias on Tuesday. Syria.

The agency reported that the airstrike took place at dawn and targeted a military site near the city, causing some material damage.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said it was the third such attack in the Baniyas area this year.

The Observatory added that two Israeli missiles targeted at least two buildings, one of which belonged to an air defense battalion, and noted that Iranian military advisers were stationed in the area.

Last May, the Ministry of Defense said an Israeli airstrike on Banias killed a girl and injured 10 other civilians.

Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes since the Syrian revolution began in 2011, mainly targeting army positions and Iranian-backed militants, including Hezbollah Lebanese.

Israeli authorities rarely comment on the actions, but they have repeatedly said they will not allow Iran to expand its presence in Syria.
