Knife-wielding attacker stabs multiple children in Dublin — RT World News

Irish police have arrested a man after four people, three of them children under the age of six, were stabbed at a school in Dublin on Thursday. The incident sparked angry protests in the streets of the city, where rumors spread that the perpetrator of the crime was a foreign national.

An adult woman and three children were injured in the attack, which occurred at an Irish language school in the city centre. One of the children, a five-year-old girl, was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, while two other children – a five-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl – were treated for less serious injuries, the source said. The Irish Times reported.

The attacker was restrained at the scene by members of the public and arrested shortly after, according to local media reports. He was also taken to hospital for treatment, and police described him as an adult male in his 50s.

While the police did not provide any further information about the man or his possible motives, the right-wing news site Gript, citing police sources, described him as an Algerian national.

As a description of the suspect as Algerian spread on social media, crowds of demonstrators gathered near the scene, where the demonstration quickly turned into clashes between riot police and masked rioters. At least one police car was set on fire, and several officers were assaulted, RTE News reported.

Police Commissioner Drew Harris condemned the vandals “A completely crazy riotous faction driven by far-right ideology.”
