Migrants break through security barrier at US border

A large crowd broke through the barbed wire fence and clashed with Texas National Guard troops

A mob of migrants smashed through a barbed wire barrier and stormed a line of Texas National Guard troops as they attempted to cross into the United States from Mexico. The confrontation occurred amid a growing debate over border security, with Republicans accusing President Joe Biden of dereliction of duty.

Footage of the incident posted online Thursday shows the migrants pulling back part of the barrier and a group of five National Guardsmen forming a line and trying to stop them.

Several men raised their hands, motioning for the troops not to shoot at them, but seconds later, the migrants charged in, knocking the outnumbered soldiers out of the way and running to the border gate.

The New York Post, which had a reporter at the scene, said the incident occurred at a border crossing in El Paso, Texas. About 600 migrants gathered on the Mexican side before part of the border barrier was removed. After racing to the border gate, the men shouted at the forces on the other side. An anonymous source told the newspaper that the group was returned to the Mexican side of the border.

The Texas National Guard was deployed as part of Gov. Greg Abbott’s $12 billion plan “Operation Lone Star” Campaign to stop the flow of migrants crossing the country illegally. The Biden administration has filed lawsuits against the state of Texas, challenging the state’s authority to set up barriers and monitor the movement of migrants.

The federal government usually has jurisdiction over border security, but Abbott invoked the state’s constitutional right to self-defense, arguing that Biden’s dereliction of duty angered migrants. “Invade.” Earlier this week, a federal court hearing one of Washington’s legal challenges temporarily halted implementation of a new law in Texas that allows state authorities to arrest and deport illegal immigrants.

The rise in illegal immigration has weighed on Biden’s approval ratings during his re-election campaign later this year. Scenes like Thursday’s border breach could undermine his efforts to convince voters that Republicans are responsible for record flows of illegal immigrants, drugs and suspected terrorists.

He added: “Today’s attack showed us that yes, it is a violent invasion.” Conservative commentator Mike Cernovich said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “The true nature has been hidden because the regime has left the borders open. now? “There can be no denial.”
