Some families of Israeli prisoners detained in Gaza are increasingly convinced that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was the one pushing for a ceasefire and prisoner swap deal in Gaza for political reasons.

In turn, the ministers of national security and finance, Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, threatened to veto the ruling coalition if the deal contained any clauses requiring Israel to withdraw from the Gaza Strip and declare an end to the war.
