The Big Picture

  • Season 2 of Our knowledge means death The film will focus on the love-hate relationship between Stede Bonnett and Blackbeard, as they each deal with their feelings in their own way.
  • The Season 2 poster reflects the intertwining nature of Blackbeard and Stede, with their profiles forming a decaying heart and skull, symbolizing love and danger.
  • Fans can expect Season 2 to continue to blend pirate adventure, comedy, and LGBTQIA+ representation, challenging norms and exploring themes of identity and gender in a sweet and welcoming way.

Love is in the air… are words you never thought would be associated with a pirate show, but here we go. Our knowledge means death Finally returning for Season 2, Max revealed that October will be a complete Pirate Pride Month! In order to tease the upcoming episodes, the broadcaster revealed a poster that doesn’t hide its theme: The new episodes will be about the love and…hate (?) Steed Bonet relationship (Rhys Darby(and black beard)Taika Waititi). The first trailer was also revealed today.

Of course, Stede becomes more open to him after he finally engages in a relationship that’s true to his heart, while Blackbeard fights it off. So the interesting part is watching how each half of the couple deals with their feelings. But if the poster is any indication, it would be a bumpy road (or rough seas) for the pirates to meet in the middle. And for fans who miss the show so badly, the great news is that season two is off to a strong start: three episodes are scheduled to premiere simultaneously on October 5th.

The Season 2 poster is also an interesting piece of analysis: with a black-and-white photo of Darby and Waititi on a black background, it makes unmistakable references to Blackbeard and also to the fact that the duo are intertwined. Love and violence are suggested by the sword and rose and – and the best part – Blackbeard and Stede’s heads form a heart and the traditional pirate symbol of a decaying skull. Again, this is still a pirate show and danger is everywhere.

Our Science Means Death is (very) loosely based on the true adventures of would-be pirate Steed Bonnet (Rhys Darby) in the 18th century. After seemingly trading the life of a gentleman for one of his swashbuckling pirates, Steed becomes captain of the pirate ship Revenge. Struggling to win the respect of his would-be mutinous crew, Steed’s fortunes change after a fateful encounter with the infamous Captain Blackbeard (Taika Waititi). To their surprise, the very different Stede and Blackbeard have found more than friendship on the high seas…they have found love. Now, they have to survive.
