The 2025 BMW EV will get that simpler look, more range, and faster charging

At the Munich Motor Show, BMW unveiled the Vision Neue Klasse Concept that showcases the design language for the automaker’s next generation of electric vehicles.
Although it’s still a concept car, the Vision Neue Klasse is the next iteration of the i Vision Dee concept that bowed at CES in January. This model boasted what BMW called a “reduced design” that was a throwback to the E30 3 Series while also presenting a vision of a much simplified EV interface.
Promising 30% more range, 30% faster charging, and 25% better efficiency, as BMW revealed previously, the upcoming Neue Klasse EVs represent an important technological step for the brand. “We’re not just writing the next chapter for BMW; we’re writing a completely new book,” said Head of Development and Board Member Frank Weber.

The Vision Neue Klasse is a traditional three-box sedan that’s expected to be about the same size as the Series 3, and thus the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6. But it’ll be part of a whole family of variants, so expect a crossover and SUV to be part of the lineup. future product family too.
The exterior of the Neue Klasse Concept gets a “cheerful, bright” yellow. The bonnet is well defined, with a steeply sloping windshield, a low close-fitting beltline, and an angular roofline dip into a distinctive truck hood. At the front there is a lighter and wider version of the BMW kidney grille and twin headlamps, with coordinating lightning to welcome the driver.

BMW also refers to the “Hofmeister kink”, as the small front cutout from the rear roof pillar is called. In everything related to the concept, this is the first time that the automaker has deeply tapped the design heritage of its petrol models and focused it on an electric vehicle.
Inside, there’s a next-generation version of BMW’s iDrive controller and corresponding display interface – with the interface itself greatly simplified, much shifted to the line of sight and a much improved head-up display. The panoramic view system responds to gesture controls, and ambient lighting adds to the experience.
BMW says the cabin appointments are “completely devoid of chrome or leather trim.” The front seats are held by a single bracket, which helps create more rear legroom.

BMW has already confirmed many production details for these Neue Klasse electric cars, although they are still about two years away from production. It will mark the beginning of BMW’s shift to cylindrical cells and cell-to-package technology, replacing the cylindrical cells and modules that current BMW EVs stick to. Faster charging and range improvements are among the benefits this is expected to bring, but BMW has also hinted that hydrogen fuel cell technology could be included in the future.
Throughout the concept, there is an effort to use more secondary raw materials, encourage recycling and recyclability, and the production version of the Neue Klasse models will be manufactured in Debrecen, Hungary, without fossil fuels. The US-bound versions of Neue Klasse EVs will come from Mexico, which could make them eligible for the tax credit.
