The best new movies and shows on Netflix: Labor Day Weekend 2023

With a very long Labor Day weekend in the US, there’s plenty of time to dive into some new releases on Netflix, and luckily, there have been some great ones. Here are our top six picks for the best new movies and series streaming right now.

A brilliant performance from Garfield and visceral visuals throughout earned Lionsgate an Academy Award, and rightfully so.

Fences (2016)

Denis Villeneuve, most commonly associated with the Dune series at the moment (unfortunately, the sequel only recently premiered in 2024 — boo!), was the director behind the poignant and visually stunning sci-fi classic.
