On Sunday, ISRO released a graph of the temperature change on the lunar surface, and a senior scientist at the space agency expressed his surprise at the high temperature recorded on the moon.

The National Space Agency said the payload of the Chandra Surface Thermophysical Experiment (ChaSTE) aboard the Vikram Chandrayaan-3 lander measured the temperature of the lunar surface soil around the pole to understand the thermal behavior of the lunar surface.

These are the first observations from the ChaSTE payload aboard the Vikram Lander. The probe is equipped with 10 individual temperature sensors. The displayed graph shows changes in lunar surface/near surface temperature at various depths, as recorded during the probe’s penetration. This is the first such appearance of the lunar south pole. ISRO said in a statement. : “Detailed observations are ongoing.”

“When we go two to three centimeters inside the Earth, we hardly see a difference of two to three degrees Celsius, while there (in the moon), the difference is about 50 degrees Celsius,” Darukisha explained. The prominent scientist said that the temperature drops to 10 degrees Celsius below the surface of the moon, adding that the variation ranges from 70 degrees Celsius to 10 degrees below zero.
