A new DEI newsletter urges officials not to use terms like “blacklist” or “sanity check,” Fox News reports.

The U.S. Intelligence Community's Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) issued a new internal newsletter with recommendations on language security employees should avoid in their work, Fox News reported on Saturday.

The radio said that the document urges not to use words such as “blacklisting” or “outing,” and highlights the benefits of wearing clothing that is inconsistent with the work of an intelligence officer.

It's not clear exactly when the document, titled “Words Matter: The Importance of Words,” was made public, but Fox News reported that it was initially obtained by The Daily Wire through a public information request. The paper was produced by an agency within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), a Cabinet-level position that oversees major spy agencies, including the CIA and several military intelligence services.

The bulletin contains six articles “It talks about inclusivity more broadly, exploring gender identity, advances in accessibility, and diversity in leadership,” According to what was reported by Fox News, which was able to review its contents.

The document sparked some criticism from US lawmakers and veterans in the intelligence community. Senator Tom Cotton, a Republican from Arkansas, told Fox News: “Intelligence officers should spend their time finding terrorists, not worrying about whether they will harm them or not.”

A similar DEI paper published in November 2023 sparked an investigation by two members of Congress after it described the Daily Wire, which also broke the story at the time, as endorsing “Blatantly left-wing views on race and gender.”
