AMC certainly doesn’t have the marketing spend of a major studio like Disney, Sony, and Paramount who have opened their concert documentaries to huge numbers, for example. Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: The best of both worlds prom (opening, $31 million, finale, $65.2 million) that’s it ($23.2 million, $72 million), and Justin Bieber never say never ($29.5 million opening, $73 million domestic).

“They don’t need that,” one distribution president cried today about the picture’s P&A spending, “all AMC needs is Taylor Swift to post about the movie on social media for her fans!”

AMC said pre-release that it would limit screening times for Hollywood Pictures due to the presence of Swift’s film, for which they created a separate portal to sell movie tickets so it could accommodate high demand. What makes this pre-recorded concert film, which is said to have been filmed at SOFI Stadium in Los Angeles, a must-see is the fact that Swift is currently on tour with concert tickets difficult to come by. Billboard magazine estimates that the Eras Tour grossed nearly $600 million, becoming the highest-grossing concert record by a female act, while Bloomberg estimates that Swift’s average concert in each US city grosses $13 million. The global forecast for the live concert of the Eras Tour is $1.4 billion.
