The exchange took place after the truce was extended for another two days
On Monday evening, Hamas released nine Israeli children and two women in exchange for the release of dozens of Palestinian Israeli prisoners. This is the fourth exchange of its kind since the short-term truce was announced last week.
According to the Times of Israel, the freed hostages are heading to Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv to be reunited with their families. Among the released Israelis are 34-year-old Sharon Aloni Koneo and her 3-year-old twin daughters. Kunio’s husband is still being held by Hamas.
All of the Israelis released on Monday are from Kibbutz Nir Oz, one of the communities attacked by Palestinian militants on October 7.
The Israeli Prisons Authority announced, at dawn on Tuesday, the release of 33 Palestinians from Israeli prisons to East Jerusalem and the West Bank.
The Israeli government said in a statement that 50 Palestinian women were added to the list “List of prisoners eligible for release if more Israeli hostages are released.” The announcement came after the four-day truce between Israel and Hamas that was scheduled to end Monday evening was extended for another 48 hours, according to Qatar, which mediated the negotiations.
