Qatar World Cup opening ceremony wins 2023 Sports Event of the Year Award

The opening ceremony of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was awarded the Best Sporting Event award during the ‘Be Ord’ festival in Italy this week. The festival celebrates the best creative talent in sports and other events.

The highlight of the first World Cup in the Middle East and Arab World was selected from 333 competing entries from 24 countries, winning praise from the festival jury for its unique artistic painting.

The unforgettable ceremony held at Al Bayt Stadium lasted 30 minutes and was broadcast in more than 170 countries, becoming part of football history and bringing Qatar’s vision of uniting the world.

The iconic opening was designed and produced by Balich Wonder Studio and overseen by Qatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery and Heritage, with support from renowned Qatari artist Ahmed Al Baker.

The sculpture “Whale Shark – Icon of the Lusail Trail” by creator Marko Balic also won the award for Best Creative Work, symbolizing Qatar’s interest in protecting the natural environment.

Balic, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Balic Wonder Studio, said: “We believe that a project of this scale is a unique opportunity to spread a beautiful message to the world, and we are honored to support Qatar’s leadership and the excellent work of outstanding Qatari and international professionals.
