Student killed in school shooting in Finland — RT World News

A student was killed and two others were injured in a school shooting near the Finnish capital, Helsinki, local police said, adding that the victims and the suspected attacker were all 12 years old.

The accident occurred on Tuesday morning at a junior high school in the city of Vantaa, north of Helsinki. Police said they were alerted to the shooting just after 9 a.m. and arrested a suspect in the capital shortly afterwards.

One student died at the scene while two others were taken to the hospital, according to an update from law enforcement several hours after the shooting. Initial reports stated that three students were injured.

The unnamed suspect is a student at the school and was in possession of a gun. The forces confiscated the weapon and arrested the shooter.

According to the newspaper Ilta Sanomat, law enforcement authorities initially stated that the victims were 13 years old, but later corrected this information. The report added that officers asked students and teachers at the facility to take shelter and wait for instructions. More updates are expected later on Tuesday.
