Sweden officially became the 32nd member of the US-led NATO alliance after the document formalizing Stockholm's entry into the bloc took effect on Thursday.
The accession ceremony will be held in Washington, where Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson will present his country's accession documents to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
In the instrument of accession published by the US State Department, it is announced that all conditions for Sweden's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) have been met, and that the protocol denoting Stockholm's membership has entered into force on March 7, 2024.
In a post on X, Christerson also Announce That NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg informed him that all members of the bloc formally accepted Sweden's accession protocol and invited Stockholm to join NATO.
Later on Thursday, Oslo is scheduled to make a final formal decision on joining the bloc, which will be followed by a press conference. After that, Kristersson is scheduled to address the nation, according to Swedish Radio.
