DR Congo misses out on victory over Zambia, Morocco group top spot at Africa Cup of Nations

DR Congo wasted multiple chances to draw 1-1 with Zambia in their Africa Cup of Nations Group F match at the Laurent Boko Stadium in San Pedro on Wednesday.

Kings Kangwa scored for Zambia in the 23rd minute, and Yuan Wesa equalized for the Democratic Republic of Congo four minutes later.

The Moroccan team defeated the Tanzania team 3-0, with each team scoring one point and ranking first in the group.

In the 23rd minute, after goalkeeper Lionel Mbasi stepped forward to clear the goal, Kangwa hit a wonderful long-range shot into the empty net to give Zambia the lead.

Patson Daka passed a long ball but goalkeeper Mbasi was quicker than him to deflect the throw-in, but it stayed on the ground for a few seconds and the Zambian striker passed the ball to his colleague Kangua, Kangua hits a drop shot. Henoch Enonga and Chancel Mbemba were unable to keep the ball out of the goal.

But after receiving a low pass from teammate Cedric Bakambu, Wesa easily fired in front of the goal to equalize for the Democratic Republic of Congo.

After about half an hour of play, Wesa came close to scoring his country's second goal, beating goalkeeper Lawrence Mulenga and firing a powerful shot that was pulled by Stopira before it crossed the goal line. ·Sanzo blocked.

The video assistant referee canceled out DR Congo's penalty after about an hour of play after a handball by Zambian defender Tandi Mwab following a low pass from Arthur Masuaku.

Wesa preferred a close-range pass to teammate Bakambo rather than shoot, squandering a dangerous chance for DR Congo a quarter of an hour before the end.

DR Congo could have won three points but substitute Simon Panza's close-range shot easily hit goalkeeper Mulenga.

DR Congo will play Morocco on Sunday before Zambia takes on Tanzania.
