Iran attacks Israel: Live updates

Tehran launched retaliatory strikes following a deadly airstrike that killed two Iranian generals earlier this month.

Iran has launched a wave of drones towards Israel, after US officials warned that hundreds of drones and missiles could fall on the Jewish state over the weekend.

Iran accused Israel of carrying out an air strike on its consulate in the Syrian capital, Damascus, earlier this month. The raid killed seven officers from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Quds Force, including two high-ranking generals. Israel has stuck to its usual policy of silence about assassinations that take place outside its territorial borders, but it is widely believed to have been behind the attack.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei pledged to deal with Israel “A slap in the face” In response, US officials warned on Friday that Tehran may be preparing for a massive drone and missile attack on Israeli territory within the next 24 to 48 hours.

The Iranian response appears to have begun on Saturday afternoon when Iranian Revolutionary Guard commandos seized an Israel-linked container ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
