The agency claimed that an intelligence agent was planning to take revenge for Washington's assassination of General Qasem Soleimani
The FBI has alleged that an Iranian intelligence agent is recruiting agents in the United States to help kill current and former government officials who participated in the assassination of Tehran's top general in January 2020.
The FBI's Miami office said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that Majid Dastjani Farahani is wanted for questioning in connection with a plot to target US officials. An FBI wanted poster for 41-year-old Farahani alleges that he acted or is alleged to act on behalf of Iran's Ministry of Intelligence and Security while recruiting individuals for operations in the United States.
Farahani is involved in 'Deadly targeting' The FBI alleged that senior US officials, including members of former President Donald Trump's administration, were killed in retaliation for the killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
Soleimani was killed in a US drone strike near Baghdad International Airport while traveling to meet with Adel Abdul Mahdi, the then Iraqi Prime Minister. Washington said at the time that Soleimani was complicit in attacks on American diplomatic and military sites in Iraq and Syria.
Some Iranian officials did not hide their desire to avenge Soleimani's killing by killing Trump and other American leaders, such as former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the military commanders involved in the assassination. “God willing, we are looking forward to killing Trump [and] Pompeo.” The commander of the IRGC Air Force, Amir Ali Hajizadeh, told the state-run outlet last year.

The federal government provided a 24-hour security detail for Bolton and another top Trump aide, Robert O'Brien, at an annual cost of about $12 million, due to potential threats from Iran.
The US Department of Justice charged an alleged Iranian Revolutionary Guard agent, Shahram Poursafi, in August 2022, alleging that he tried to arrange Bolton's murder. He allegedly arranged to pay his recruits $300,000 to carry out the killing. He added: “Iran has a history of planning to assassinate individuals in the United States that it considers a threat, but the American government has a longer history of holding accountable those who threaten the safety of our citizens.” said Larissa L. Knapp, assistant director in the FBI's National Security Branch at the time.
