Israeli tanks enter Rafah (VIDEO) — RT World News

The Israeli army announced that it was carrying out a “delicate anti-terrorism operation” in Gaza City

The Israeli army entered the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, while West Jerusalem announced strikes against Hamas fighters in the area.

The Israeli army said, in a statement on Tuesday morning, that it was carrying out an operation “A precise operation to thwart terrorism in the eastern Rafah area” trying “To eliminate Hamas terrorists.”

A video clip published by the Israeli army showed at least four Israeli tanks on the Gaza side of the Rafah crossing on the border with Egypt. It appears that part of the clip was filmed by a soldier sitting on top of one of the vehicles.

The Israeli army also said that its forces did so “I was able to impose operational control on the Gaza side of the crossing.” He added that ground forces and air forces destroyed Hamas military facilities in the area, and claimed to have eliminated about 20 militants.

According to an unnamed Palestinian security official and an Egyptian official cited by The Times of Israel, Israeli tanks came within 200 meters of the Rafah crossing, which is located directly on the Egyptian border. The Egyptian official told the newspaper “The operation appears to be limited in scope.”

The Israeli army said it encouraged local residents to evacuate the expanded humanitarian zone in Al-Mawasi, located on the coast and far from the Rafah crossing.

The Rafah operation comes after the Israeli army said that mortar shells were fired from the area at Israeli forces, killing four soldiers and wounding several others. It also comes in the wake of Hamas's decision to accept the Egyptian-Qatari ceasefire proposal, the details of which remain unclear so far.

But the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the deal “Far from meeting Israel's basic demands.” He added that the National War Cabinet unanimously decided to proceed with an Israeli army operation in Rafah. “In order to exert military pressure on Hamas” Progress was made in the release of hostages captured by the Palestinian armed group since the start of hostilities on October 7.
