NATO state’s defense chief sacked after fatal car crash — RT World News

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic announced the dismissal of Croatian Defense Minister Mario Banošić from his position, following a traffic accident that killed one person and seriously injured him.

The accident occurred on Saturday morning near the city of Vinkovci in eastern Croatia, and was allegedly Panošić’s fault. “We expressed our condolences to the Šarić family through Mayor Vinkovac who visited Mr. Šarić’s wife early in the afternoon, and we are in contact with Minister Banošić’s wife.” The Prime Minister said in a statement to reporters.

“In these truly exceptional circumstances due to this serious traffic accident, Panošić has been relieved of his duties as Defense Minister.” He added, stressing further that State Minister Zdravko Jakub is a commissioner “Assume all necessary responsibilities to ensure that the Ministry of Defense operates in the best possible way.”

Plenkovic did not say where the former defense minister was headed or where he had been the night before, but he said that at the time of the incident, Panošić was off duty. Police investigations continue, local media reported mentioned No alcohol was found in Panošić’s blood.
