A garden home belonging to Armin Paperger, CEO of one of Germany's leading arms manufacturers, has been targeted by arsonists, multiple media outlets reported on Wednesday. “Left extremists” The claim of responsibility for the attack linked Rheinmetall arms shipments to Ukraine, according to a post on the Indymedia platform.

Since the start of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia in February 2022, Rheinmetall has supplied Kiev with military equipment including Leopard tanks. Last month, the German government placed an order with the manufacturer for an additional 20 Marder infantry fighting vehicles for the Ukrainian army.

A message allegedly from the perpetrators was reportedly posted a few hours after the attack on the Indymedia platform. German media describe the portal as the preferred portal for left-wing extremists. The authors of the letter claimed that the arms manufacturer was stockpiling various types of tanks “It can now be sold to Ukraine along with the munitions at a significant profit.” The anonymous statement added that “Rheinmetall plans, produces and kills, and not just at the local level.”

According to the media, citing local authorities, the alleged arson attack did not endanger human life. The police have opened an investigation and are verifying the authenticity of the message by the alleged perpetrators.

Back in 2020, left-wing protesters held a protest outside Baberger's property to denounce Rheinmetall's actions.
