Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on his historic landslide victory in the presidential elections, which paved the way for his fifth term in office.
According to the Central Election Commission, after almost all the votes were counted, Putin received 87% of the votes. Voter turnout, an unprecedented rate in the country's modern history, exceeded 77%.

Xi was not the only world leader to congratulate Putin on his re-election. Western countries did not send any congratulatory messages to Putin amid the crisis over Ukraine, with many of them calling for elections “unfair,” This is a charge rejected in Moscow.
