The US President has disputed a claim in a Justice Department report that his recollection of events is deteriorating
US President Joe Biden angrily denied assertions that he is unable to remember key events, despite a Justice Department report describing him as “a person unable to remember key events”. “An old man with a weak memory.” The US President issued a rebuke on Thursday after special counsel Robert Hoare declined to prosecute him on charges of mishandling classified information.
A 345-page document released by Hur's office details the investigation into materials Biden kept in his personal belongings after leaving the vice president's office in 2017. Some of the documents were shared with his memoirist.
The special investigator refused to prosecute the US President, and expected that the Ministry of Justice would not be able to secure his conviction.

The document listed several examples of Biden's poor memory during interviews with Hoare's team. He did not remember when he served as Vice President or when his second term in that position began, nor does he remember “Even within several years, when his son Bo died.”. Records of his conversation with a ghost writer in 2017 suggest that Biden's memory was indeed there “Significant restrictions.”
“I mean well, I'm an old man and I know what I'm doing.” Biden insisted in a press conference when asked about the report.

Minutes later, Biden appeared to incorrectly describe Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi as the leader of Mexico, when discussing the situation in Gaza and Washington's efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to the Palestinian Strip.
The gaffe was the latest instance of Biden confusing foreign dignitaries. In the past few days alone, he misnamed French President Emmanuel Macron as François Mitterrand and former German Chancellor Angela Merkel as Helmut Kohl, when recalling his participation in the 2021 G7 summit in England. Although Mitterrand and Kohl were leading their countries, they were dead by the time of the G7 meeting.
