Germany trying to stop its citizens seeing Russia for themselves – Moscow — RT World News

The travel advice came due to “the continuing deterioration of the situation in the country,” according to Berlin

The German Foreign Ministry has updated travel advice for Russia, “And now with power” German citizens and persons with dual citizenship are discouraged from visiting the country. Previously, Berlin only advised against traveling to Russia.

According to a press release from the ministry, issued Thursday, the change came due to the continued deterioration of the situation in Russia, including… “Arbitrary arrests are being observed more and more frequently.”

The new notice also warns against traveling to Russian regions bordering Ukraine, which along with Moscow has been the target of frequent drone attacks in recent months. “Further attacks cannot be ruled out.” Including the public transportation network, the press release warned.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on the recommendations, saying: “The pro-American German authorities fear that their citizens will see Russia with their own eyes, interact with the Russians and realize that [German] Politicians have cheated [them] all these years,” Zakharova said.

This development comes in the wake of the recent eavesdropping scandal over the leaked recording of senior German military officials discussing how to help Kiev strike Russian infrastructure without implicating Berlin. The officers discussed the operational and targeting details of the Taurus missiles that could be sent to Ukraine, including their potential use against the 18-kilometre-long Crimean Bridge, which connects the peninsula to southern Russia.

They also talked about ways to maintain plausible deniability of German involvement in such an attack, to avoid provoking a broader conflict.

This week, MP Roderich Kieswetter, a former German army general staff officer – who is currently vice-chairman of the German parliament's supervisory committee – insisted that Ukraine must take the war to Russia. He said on a talk show on the state channel ZDF that the Russian Defense Ministry building or the headquarters of the Russian intelligence service in central Moscow are legitimate targets that should be attacked.
