Trump wins primaries in five more states — RT World News

The former US president faced almost no opposition, as all other major Republican candidates withdrew from the race

Republican candidate Donald Trump easily won GOP primaries in five other states, with current US leader Joe Biden doing the same for Democrats as the pair move towards a rematch in November's presidential election.

Trump achieved landslide victories on Tuesday in the states of Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Kansas and Ohio, gaining the support of all delegates.

He faced little opposition because all of his leading Republican rivals, including former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, had already dropped out of the race.

Except for Haley, who said Trump should do it “wins” With the support of their voters, all of the former Republican aspirants backed the former president.

Trump had already secured the support of a majority of delegates last week, making him the Republican Party's presumptive nominee in the November election.

Biden made similar strides in the Democratic Party primaries on Tuesday, receiving the support of all delegates in the same five states. In Florida, the incumbent leader was the only candidate on the ballot.

Like Trump, Biden has already won enough delegates to become his party's presumptive nominee, and faces almost no opposition within Democrats. While both candidates have essentially closed their nominations, they are expected to be formally selected at the Republican National Convention in July and the Democratic National Convention in late August.

The US presidential election is scheduled for November 5. According to the latest Morning Consult poll, Trump and Biden are tied among registered voters, with each receiving 43% support. However, a February Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll showed Biden trailing his rival in seven swing states — Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada and Wisconsin.
