US border and immigration chief impeached — RT World News

The US House of Representatives voted to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, accusing him of failing to deal with the influx of migrants illegally crossing the border with Mexico.

The motion to impeach Mayorkas passed by a vote of 214 to 213 on Tuesday, with only three Republicans joining all Democrats in voting against the measure.

In a 22-page proposal, lawmakers said Mayorkas has refused to comply with federal court rulings regarding the border crisis, saying he is responsible for the surge at the southern border. The file also accused the official of misleading Congress, claiming he had done so “He has demonstrated that he will continue to be a threat to national and border security.” And “He acted in a manner flagrantly inconsistent with his duties and the rule of law.”

“Throughout his tenure as Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro N. Mayorkas repeatedly violated laws enacted by Congress regarding immigration and border security.” Motion to impeach, he said. “Largely because of his illegal conduct, millions of aliens illegally enter the United States on an annual basis, with many remaining illegally in the United States.”

Mayorkas survived a previous impeachment attempt last week in a 214-216 vote, with four GOP members siding with Democrats.
