Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said US President Joe Biden is “using federal agencies as a weapon” against his political opponents
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., another presidential candidate, said President Joe Biden may pose a greater danger to American democracy than former president and presumptive 2024 rival, Donald Trump. The politician stated that Biden is the first president in the history of the United States to mobilize federal agencies to silence his political opponents.
Speaking to CNN on Monday, Kennedy Jr. noted that he was blocked on several social media platforms during Biden's time in office and called it an attempt to… “Censorship of political speech” Which violated the First Amendment to the US Constitution. He also attributed the “censorship” to pressure from the White House.
When pressed by CNN's Erin Burnett on who he believes poses a greater threat to democracy, Kennedy stated that he still views Biden as a greater threat, even though Trump played a role in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
“The question is: Who poses a worse threat to democracy? And what I would say is… I'm not going to answer that question. But I would argue that President Biden is, because the First Amendment, Erin, is the most important.” Nominee said to presenter Erin Burnett.
“I could make the argument that President Biden is a much worse threat to democracy, and the reason for that is because President Biden is the first candidate in history — the first president in history to use federal agencies to censor political speech, so censor his opponent.”
The politician's Instagram page was suspended in 2021 over what parent company Meta described as “Frequently sharing false claims about coronavirus or vaccines.” The account was restored in 2022, shortly after Kennedy announced his campaign.
In December, the Supreme Court barred him from joining an appeal in a case involving the Biden administration's outreach to social media platforms over posts the government deemed misinformation. The politician also had a similar case pending in a lower court.
Last year, Kennedy testified before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Weaponization of the Federal Government, speaking as part of the House Republicans' investigation into alleged social media censorship against conservatives. The politician also made freedom of expression the focus of his presidential campaign.
Kennedy (70 years old) is the son of former US Attorney General Robert Kennedy and the nephew of former US President John F. Kennedy, both of whom were assassinated during the 1960s. He has recently gained notoriety for being a prominent critic of vaccines, as well as calling for an end to them “Proxy wars” conducted by the United States – but some of his critics dismissed many of his positions as conspiratorial in nature.
The former Democratic Party candidate is now campaigning as an independent ahead of the November election.
