Biden considers sending US Army’s money to Ukraine – Bloomberg — RT World News

The US President is reportedly looking for alternatives after the foreign aid bill stalled in Congress

The US government is considering tapping into the US military's budget in order to provide Ukraine with much-needed additional military aid, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

One source told the news agency that the final decision has not been made yet. The amount the White House is said to be seeking in Pentagon reserves — about $200 million — is a small fraction of the $61 billion in Ukraine aid that President Biden has requested from Congress.

Bloomberg said the president will again urge lawmakers to approve new aid for Kiev during his State of the Union address on Thursday. The Senate supported the aid package last month, but it is now stalled in the House of Representatives due to bitter political infighting.

Republicans in the House of Representatives have so far refused to support Biden's bill, hoping to pressure the president to enact tougher measures to deal with the influx of illegal immigrants crossing the border with Mexico.

The filibuster in Congress comes at a critical time for Ukraine, whose forces have been forced to withdraw from several key locations in Donbas in recent weeks. President Vladimir Zelensky and other officials in Kiev cited shortages of ammunition and other equipment as reasons behind the battlefield losses.
