Google Maps is preparing support for live activities before expanding Dynamic Island to all iPhone 15 models
The latest version of the Google Maps app for iPhone includes hidden code-level references to live activities, according to engadget. MacRumors contributor Steve Moser. The feature is still under development and has not yet been launched in the app.
Live Activities will allow Google Maps users to view turn-by-turn directions and ETA in a single lock screen notification that updates directly, and in Dynamic Island on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Apple is expected to expand Dynamic Island to all four iPhone 15 models, which are scheduled to be unveiled on September 12th.
In February, the Google Maps team announced that it would roll out support for live activities “in the coming months,” but the feature is still not available. Apple Maps has supported Live Activities since the release of iOS 16 last year, and Apple has allowed third-party iPhone apps to offer the feature since the release of iOS 16.1.
