Five people were killed in a stabbing attack in Westfield Bondi Junction, an eastern suburb of Sydney, local police said on Saturday.
Earlier, New South Wales Police confirmed that A “serious incident” This happened after an unknown person was shot in the area. They added that officers rushed to the scene after receiving reports that several people had been stabbed.
NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Anthony Cook said it appeared the attacker was alone.
He added: “While he was moving to the center, he clashed with about nine people, and it is clear that during those clashes he caused harm to these people, we believe, by stabbing them with a weapon he was carrying.” The officer told the media. According to another video clip spread on social media, the suspect faced significant resistance from members of the public. One shopper can be seen blocking his way to the top of the escalator with what appears to be a long, massive object.
