Protests turn into riot outside Netanyahu’s home in Jerusalem (VIDEO) — RT World News

Anti-government demonstrators marched towards the Prime Minister's residence, demanding immediate elections

Media reports said that demonstrators clashed with Israeli police in front of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's home in Jerusalem on Tuesday evening, demanding that he step down.

Thousands of demonstrators gathered outside the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, to express their anger at Netanyahu's handling of the war in Gaza, which has so far claimed the lives of nearly 33,000 people. They were demanding the release of the hostages and immediate elections.

The march began with a series of speeches by family members of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, as well as anti-government activists, and former Prime Minister Ehud Barak – a staunch critic of Netanyahu.

The third day of the four-day anti-government demonstration quickly turned into chaos as torch-wielding demonstrators fanned out through Jerusalem neighborhoods, heading for the prime minister's residence.

Thousands of demonstrators poured into the streets of the wealthy Rehavia neighborhood, where Netanyahu's family lives, chanting slogans and demanding his resignation. Local media reported that some demonstrators tried to remove the barricades outside.

Pictures from the site showed police attacking the crowd to prevent them from storming in, and using water cannons to disperse the demonstrators, many of whom carried Israeli flags. The Israeli police described this stage of the march as: “Unbridled riot.”

The demonstrators accused Netanyahu of trying to use the war to prolong his grip on power, claiming that he is prioritizing his political survival over the broader interests of the Israeli people. They also held the Prime Minister responsible for his government's failure to prevent the October 7 attack led by Hamas. Netanyahu has also been accused of not doing enough to return hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.

Israel declared war on Hamas after Palestinian militants carried out a surprise cross-border raid on October 7 last year, killing about 1,100 people and taking more than 200 hostage. The Israeli military campaign has since killed at least 32,845 people, according to the latest data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health published on Monday.
