Not all that glitters is gold, and that seems to include the iPhone 15 Pro. Rumors about iPhone 15 colors continue to circulate – we’ve even seen mock units of the phones show potential colors – with evidence mounting that the gold option will be left out of the mix.
It would be a huge absence if gold wasn’t part of the iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Pro lineup. Apple’s high-end models feature gold dating back to the iPhone Xs and Xs Max in 2018. You’d have to go back to the 2017 iPhone X to find a model where gold wasn’t an option on Apple’s most expensive phones. (The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were released at the same time as the iPhone X, and they’re gold.)

Add analyst Ming-Chi Kuo to the chorus of people who think gold isn’t part of Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro plans. Writing on MediumThe analyst includes potential colors for all iPhone 15 models. Kuo expects the Pro lineup to be available in space gray, white, black, and blue. The colors on iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are listed as black, pink, yellow, blue, and green.
Kuo isn’t the first Apple watcher to leave gold out of the iPhone 15 Pro color mix. A previous report identified navy blue and giant gray as options for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, in addition to the basic black and white options.
Need more evidence? Posted by leaker Sonny Dixon Pictures of the fake units of the iPhone 15 ProThe image shows four different colors – grey, blue, white and black. Gold is no show.
Dixon has it too Fake iPhone 15 units in multiple colors Which matches the blue, pink, green, yellow and black colors mentioned by Koo. Even better, you can also see a USB-C port on these units, supporting long-standing rumors that the iPhone 15 will replace Apple’s Lightning port with a USB-C connection.
And colors appear more subdued than usual in these dummy units, especially in the iPhone 15 Pro units. This could reflect Apple’s rumored move to titanium as the material in the iPhone 15 Pro frame. Although it is lighter and more durable than stainless steel, it is difficult to produce vibrant colors.
Speaking of production, Kuo’s Medium post notes that several production issues have been resolved—from image sensor stack to display and battery issues. However, Kuo warns that production of the iPhone 15 Pro Max lags behind other new models, as it was the last of the phones to enter mass production. That could mean supply shortages when the iPhone 15 launches in mid-September.
Apple just scheduled its Apple event for September, and we assume the iPhone 15 will be the star of the show when it launches on September 12th. If Apple follows its normal launch schedule, that means the new phones could be on sale as soon as September 22nd, even if the gold model turns out to be MIA.
